The row over the banning of anti-immigration MP Geert Wilders from entering Britain last week has not boosted the popularity of his PVV party greatly, according to the latest online poll by Maurice de Hond.
The populist PVV would win 25 seats (!) in the 150-seat parliament if an election was held now, just two more than a week ago. The party currently has nine MP's
The two extra seats come from the main government partners, the Christian Democrats (CDA) and Labour, who both lost one each in the latest opinion poll. This makes the PVV the second biggest party after the CDA.

Dutch MP Wilders Refused Entry To The UK

"A threat to public order"
Dutch Right-wing politician and controversial anti-Islam campaigner Geert Wilders has been refused entry to the United Kingdom despite being invited to visit by a member of the House of Lords, the British parliament's upper chamber.
Mr Wilders, who was due to go to London this Thursday, received a letter today, 10 February, from the British ambassador to the Netherlands telling him that he was not welcome, reportedly because his visit would constitute a threat to public order.
Mr Wilders responded to the decision in fighting mood, telling Dutch media that he still intended to travel to London:
"I'll see what happens at the border. Let them put me in handcuffs."
Dutch Foreign Minister Maxime Verhagen's response was also firm. He contacted his UK counterpart, David Miliband, by telephone and voiced his dissatisfaction that a member of the Dutch parliament - Geert Wilders is in fact also the leader of a political grouping, The Freedom Party - has been prohibited from entering a fellow European Union member state.
Invited
Geert Wilders, perhaps best known outside the Netherlands for having made the video Fitna, in which the religion Islam and its holy book the Qur'an are Islam attacked as providing a basis for terrorist attacks and for the undermining of western democracy and values, had been invited to London for a showing of this film to members of the British parliament.
The invitation to do so was extended to the controversial Dutch politician by a member of the unelected House of Lords.
Regrettable
Mr Verhagen commented regarding the showing of Fitna in the British parliament that this was a matter for the House of Lords to decide on, but added: "The fact that a Dutch parliamentarian is refused entry to another EU country is highly regrettable."
Geert Wilders was initially to have shown his video to the British parliament in January, but those plans were cancelled following fierce protests from the UK's Muslim community.
(Again the leader of one of the biggest parties of the Netherlands has to be silence, like the voters and members of this party who indirectly are being disadvantaged with this mistreat.
And as always: the people with the biggest mouths are getting it their way again.)

PVV: Hate Preacher Must Leave Country Or Go To Prison
The Islamic preacher Khalid Yasin must immediately leave the Netherlands is the opinion of Sietse Fritsma, member of the Party For Freedom, (PVV) from Geert Wilders.
Fritsma said this after the sheik made the remark on an Islamic University in Rotterdam.
In a speech Yasin said that Geert Wilders should be whipped for insulting Islam.
Fritsma wants the Muslim mayor of Rotterdam, Ahmed Aboutaleb, to stop the American imam from having a speech on Sunday in a mosque.
"It is obvious that this hate preacher calls for violence, he has to leave the Netherlands as soon as possible or go to prison." Fritsma says.
Minister of Justice, Ernst Hirsch Ballin, answered questions of several parties about the controversial imam this week. His conclusion was that there were no reasons to stop Yasin from visiting the Netherlands.
Fritsma said that the circumstances now has changed since the hate preacher made his violent remark.

Controversial Imam Can Speak In Holland

The controversial imam Khalid Yasin can give a number of speeches in the Netherlands over the next few days but will be prosecuted if he incites hatred, the NRC reports on Thursday.
The Paper says justice minister Ernst Hirsch Ballin (also known from the "IRT affaire") has told MPs that Yasin cannot be refused entry unless he is a danger to national security or public order. Yasin, a convert to Islam, was born in the US and does not need a visa.
In the past the imam has reportedly said homosexuals should be killed, that AIDS was invented by the west and deliberately injected into Africans under the guise of vaccinations, and that Muslims cannot have non-Muslim friends.
Hirsch Ballin told MPs that the Netherlands respects the right to freedom of speech as long as legal boundaries are observed, the paper said.
"The government can only intervene if there is incitement to hatred. If that is the case in this instance, or if prosecution would be opportune, depends on the judgment of the public prosecution department," the NRC quoted the minister as saying.

In Defense Of Geert Wilders Petition, To The Dutch Government

Petition "In Defense Of Geert Wilders"
Whereas Geert Wilders has exercised his fundamental human right of freedom of expression and spoken out, with facts and evidence, of the threat posed by radical Islam;
Whereas certain elements in Dutch industry and the Dutch government are suggesting that Geert Wilders be prosecuted civilly or criminally, in order to prevent such a boycott;
It is resolved that, in the event that the Dutch goverment attempts, in any way, to punish or prosecute Geert Wilders, civilly or criminally, for exercising his freedom of expression, the undersigned will initiate a boycott of any and all Dutch goods,
Sincerely,
The Undersigned
Silencing Islam's Critics
Dutch court imports Saudi rules:According to the Wall Street Journal a Dutch court imports Saudi rules for the prosecution of parliamentarian Geert Wilders, in their publication on Thursday.
The concept of punishing people for insulting the religious feelings of other people approaches dangerously close to blasphemy laws as preferred by Islamic countries.
The commentator scorns the decision to prosecute Wilders, for "if freedom of speech means something , it also includes the freedom to have controversial opinions."

Geert Wilders To Be Prosecuted
So long, free speech!

Amsterdam's Court of Appeal has ordered the prosecution of outspoken Dutch politician Geert Wilders for hate-speech, related to his anti-Islamic film, "Fitna".
In a decision posted on Wednesday, the court called on public prosecutors to begin a case against the right-wing politician over statements he made in interviews, in editorials and in his 15-minute film, released last March on the internet.
The court singled out Wilders for insulting comments like "Islam is a fascist ideology".
The court considers this so insulting for Muslims that it is in the public interest to prosecute Wilders", a summary of the court's decision said.
Commenting to Dutch media, Wilders called it a "black day for myself and for the Freedom of Speech."
Wilders' short film, which drew widespread condemnation and protests in Muslim countries, intersperses violent, graphic imagery - including from the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks in the United States and the beheading of a Caucasian man - with quotations from the Qur'an, Islam's holy book.
It ends with text saying Islam "seeks to destroy our Western civilization" and a caricature of Muhammad, his head drawn in the shape of a bomb that explodes into a crack of thunder and lighting.
The title, "Fitna", refers to a Qur'anic term for "strife".
Wednesday's decision overturns the one made by the Dutch public prosecutor's office last year. After a six-month investigation, the office had decided not to pursue a case against Wilders, saying his remarks did not amount to a punishable offence.

Labour Icon Aims for "Blooming Muslim Community" in Amsterdam West
The Hague, 13/01/09
Labour's (PvdA) integration icon Ahmed Marcouch is at the centre of controversy once again. This time, he has made a plea for making Amsterdam-West a "town in itself" where a "blooming Muslim community" should arise.
Marcouch, Moroccan and Muslim, is the leader of Slotervaart, one of the 14 district councils in Amsterdam. These districts, which also exist in Rotterdam, were introduced years ago following the example of the five New York boroughs.
A debate has been raging for some time over the future of the district councils.
In an internal letter to other district council leaders in Amsterdam-West, Marcouch has now described his ideas for a "town in itself," which could be created by merging their district councils to form "New West". A blooming Muslim community could arise with sufficient social capital. The Muslim minority would then become a positive point and "New West could focus on the integration of immigrants", Marcouch writes.
Last year, Marcouch became the centre of controversy when he proposed introducing education about Islam in all schools. Three members of the Slotervaart district council then resigned from the PvdA. And recently, newspaper De Telegraaf reported that in 2005, Marcouch wanted to bring the Muslim Brotherhood's chief ideologist, Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi, to the Netherlands to participate in a congress about Islam. The Amsterdam city council prevented this.
National PvdA leader Wouter Bos has consistently praised Marcouch as a Muslim who dares to express criticism of the Islamic community, but some, including Party For Freedom (PVV) leader and MP Geert Wilders, see him as a wolf in sheep's clothing. Wilders yesterday requested clarification from the cabinet about Marcouch's letter, terming "the Islamisation desire of Amsterdam politicians perilous."
Conservative (VVD) MP Paul de Krom said in free newspaper De Pers, which obtained Marcouch's letter, that administrators must not allow themselves to be influenced by their religion. "If Marcouch means to say that he wants to strengthen the Muslim community, or that he wants to create a specific Muslim district in Amsterdam, I would consider that very unfortunate."
PvdA MP Jeroen Dijsselbloem said he "does not understand" what exactly Marcouch wants. "Muslim communities form around mosques and not along district council borders."
Clyde Moerlie, one of the three Slotervaart district council members who resigned last year, said Marcouch's letter "fits into his thinking. I see little good in the one-sided Walhalla that Marcouch wants to set up. Perhaps a district council where public servants do not have to shake hands with women, with Islam lessons in public schools. We thought that we were members of a secular party at PvdA, but Marcouch sees it primarily as his duty as a good Muslim to propagate Islam."
