Mecca: An iron scaffolding inside one of the minarets of the Grand Mosque in Mecca collapsed this week, killing or injuring 12 construction workers.
"The accident took place at 7:30 p.m. inside the minaret under construction on the Safa side of the mosque", said the source who requested anonymity.
He said two workers were reportedly buried under the debris. "Until now we don't exactly know how many people have died or injured," he added.
Several accidents have been reported at construction sites in Mecca in recent years.
